The Comics Appreciation Project (CAP) is a 501c3 nonprofit promoting the use of graphic novels to enhance reading comprehension, engagement, empathy, self-perception (as readers), and a genuine joy of reading for all young people. Your gift helps us provide various resources to Title I schools, while also donating thousands of award-winning graphic novels each year to comfort children in medical crisis and foster care. CAP also works to uplift the legitimacy and diversity of comics as an art form and educational tool. You can also find more about us by visiting our profile for the National Literacy Directory (NLD)

Donations go directly toward CAP’s programs and operations. This includes purchasing and distributing high-quality graphic novels, creating educational materials, running community outreach events, supporting Title I schools and public libraries. We also invest in tools to grow our impact, like improving our website, expanding partnerships, and developing new programming.

Accordion ConAs of 2025, we’re proud to report that 90 cents of every dollar donated to CAP goes directly to program funding (which is a remarkable benchmark for any nonprofit) and reflects our deep commitment to impact, efficiency, and integrity.
We run a lean organization so that the vast majority of our resources support our core mission: supporting youth literacy, comforting children in need, and promoting the medium of visual storytelling to instill a lifelong joy of reading. The remaining 10% supports essential operational costs that keep our programs running smoothly and sustainably, like website maintenance, printing, event booth supplies, nonprofit fees, and other basic expenses that help us stay visible, organized, and active in the community. No one at CAP takes a salary—every dollar is used with purpose.tent

If you have any concerns about your donation or how it is being used, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly. You can contact CAP’s Founder and Director, Jason Kelley, at comicsappreciationproject@gmail.com or use the contact form on our website. We’re happy to answer questions and ensure your experience as a donor is positive and meaningful.

CAP is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and we are committed to transparency and accountability. That’s why CAP is proud to have earned the Candid “Platinum Seal of Transparency” for the third year in a row. Candid is the leading authority on nonprofit monitoring and reporting in the world. Less than 1 percent of the 1.7 million registered nonprofits secure this distinction. Donors are welcome to request updates or view our annual reports and impact through our Candid profile at: https://www.guidestar.org/profile/88-4312713

Whether you’re an individual, educator, organization, or business, we’re happy to support your efforts to raise funds for our mission. We’re also registered as a nonprofit through Facebook, Instagram, and eBay, so you can easily host fundraisers, add donation buttons to posts, or even dedicate a portion of your eBay auction proceeds to CAP directly through the platform.
