Comic Shops
We like to visit local shops and take note of what they are doing that stands out to engage with their customers and spotlight notable works. This isn’t intended to be a review page for shops. Here we are only highlighting the positives.
This shop was listed in the “Top 40 Notable Comic Shops” list in Dan Gearino’s book entitled Comic Shops: The Retail Mavericks Who Gave Us a New Geek Culture. Owner, Ralph Mathiew, started the shop way back in 1995 and has a reputation for being a real ambassador for the direct market. I messaged Ralph ahead of time and he was very responsive. I also got to spend some time with one of his employees (Paul).
- Writer Spotlights – I liked that on their left wall they had an entire section with shelves dedicated to individual writer and grouped all of the prominent works together. It was very cheap, simple, and effective marketing tool.
- Great Selection
- Friendly/Engaging Staff – Paul and I probably discussed two dozen works.
